About us

What’s a Spiky Bureau?

The Spiky Bureau embodies the clash between spiky neurodivergent strengths and rigid systems.

The clash where difference in neuro-processing creates exceptional and distinct capability, whilst workplace uniformity creates barriers and dampens psychological safety.

We close that gap by revealing the blind spots costing you performance and stifling potential, then pinpoint how we eliminate those barriers and leverage what's already working.

Our approach incorporates modern and evolving research, global communications, learning and development, HR and talent acquisition expertise to develop bespoke frameworks that centre your unique organisational needs.

What to expect in working with The Spiky Bureau?

No jargon

No standardised approach

Not another unsynchronised HR system

Just pragmatic strength-based solutions tailored that feel intuitive, manageable
and purposeful

About Liani,
Managing Director & Principal Consultant

I’ve built a successful career in human resources and global communications guided by curiosity, creativity and a drive to make a positive contribution. What I didn’t know at the time was those very drivers were also amongst the traits that finally got my autism and ADHD (AuDHD) diagnosed in my late 20s.

Without the context of how I exist in the world, I spent years overthinking, overcompensating and chastising myself.

  • I learned that hiding my questions meant fewer sighs

  • Failing to first hope my emails found the recipient well before the email body rendered me ‘rude’

  • Neurotypical assimilation was attributed to meticulous observation, ignoring the brash surroundings and masking.

It wasn’t all bad though

  • My lens on the world was valued for seeing solutions others could not

  • My ability to quickly turn around high-calibre work was renowned

  • Learning quickly even earned me a very prestigious honorary IT ‘badge’.

But then, without the support I needed, it all came to a grinding halt. Only in the depths of autistic burnout did I discover that "give it your all" doesn't mean your literal 100% until depletion. (a grave error!)

The more I learned, I couldn’t unsee the stark and unnecessary incompatibility of traditional workplaces and divergent minds. Nor could I relinquish the idea that benefits of neuroinclusion would exceed just good PR, it wasn’t a nice to have but a strategic imperative.

So, I let the hyper-focus take the driver’s seat and from this whirlwind of an experience, The Spiky Bureau was born.
